Welcome to the site of the Clerk of Superior and Juvenile Courts of Columbia County. Our staff continually strives to provide Columbia County residents with the highest level of professional public service.

Columbia County was created from Richmond County on December 10th, 1790. Columbia is Georgia’s 12th county and from her original boundaries were formed parts of Warren and McDuffie counties. Shortly after its creation, Peter Crawford was commissioned the first Clerk of the Superior and Inferior Courts of Columbia County. Cobbham, Kiokee, and Appling have all served as the county seat. Currently the County Justice Center in Evans serves as the primary courthouse.

Court is still held at Appling’s courthouse—which is the oldest courthouse in Georgia still in use. Built in 1812, the Appling courthouse was extensively remodeled in 1856, further renovations were necessary in the late 1970s .

The Superior Court was established under the Constitution of 1798 and is the highest court in each circuit. It is a court of record which means that all records, documentation, and minutes filed in this office cannot be altered after filing.

The Clerk of Superior Court is an elected official, a constitutional officer of said court. The Superior Court Clerk's Office is a vital entity for all branches of the judicial system.
