Washington Road Widening [Evans] - Columbia County, in cooperation with Reeves Construction Co., wishes to inform the traveling public that construction work for the Washington Road widening project will officially begin on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. The construction limits for the project are from William Few Parkway to Gibbs Rd, a distance of 2.9 miles and includes the widening of the G.B. “Dip” Lamkin Bridge over Euchee Creek. The time to complete the widening project work is estimated to be three years from the kickoff date of September 2, 2014.
The initial phase of the widening project will be the clearing and grubbing of the new right-of-way limits of the project. Clearing operations will begin on the western end of the project at William Few Parkway and work eastward towards and finish up at Gibbs Road.
Effective July 30, 2015 the speed limit within the Washington Road construction zone will be reduced to 35 MPH. (Press Release)
Please plan to take an alternate route and/or allow additional time for commuting for the next three years while the project is underway. Columbia County will continually provide updates associated with operations, to include future lane closures, lane shifts, detour routes, etc. Please proceed with caution through this large work zone (2.9 miles) and be prepared for sudden stops throughout the length and scope of the project area. (Additional Project Information)
**Although there may be no official closures shown for a particular road, situations may arise that necessitate temporary road or lane closures, lane shifts, and/or detours. Please watch for construction signs and proceed with caution through active work zones.
