Hurricane Irma Updates & Clean-up Recommendations

(Older Updates can be found along the right-hand side of the page)

Columbia County has been diligently working since Monday, September 11, 2017 to assess the damage from Hurricane Irma. While some areas sustained greater damage than others, the county fared well as a whole. For those citizens that do have residential debris and yard waste, the county encourages you to utilize local contractors for clean-up. For those wishing to self-haul, the county has identified Sample & Son, Inc. located at 5944 Columbia Road, Grovetown as a drop off location.

In addition to their normal hours of operation (Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM), Sample & Son, Inc. has agreed to open Saturday, September 16th from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM to assist Columbia County residents. The fees are as follows: Pickup trucks are $10.00; normal sized trailers are $20.00. (If the load contains big logs from downed trees, it will be $17.00 per ton and a $20.00 minimum fee).

In the coming days and weeks, the county’s Roads and Bridges department will continue their efforts to clean up major roadways from downed trees and power lines throughout the county to ensure the safety of the citizens.

In regards to power outages, Georgia Power has a plan in place to restore power for the citizens of the CSRA. All of their resources are deployed, and all power should be restored within three to four days (Tuesday being day two). If you have not yet reported your power outage, please contact Georgia Power directly at 1-888-660-5890.

For any other reports of debris, downed trees, etc. please call 706-541-2800.
