Stop by and view our quarterly changed art displays!
The Savannah Rapids Visitor Center is located in Columbia County, Georgia overlooking the picturesque Augusta Canal Headgates and the Savannah River. Located inside the building that was originally the Lockkeeper's Cottage, the Visitors Center is the only state certified visitor center in Columbia County. Available for anyone who wishes to visit, the center offers informational brochures for the entire state of Georgia as well as the local CSRA. In addition to visitor information you will see a re-creation of what the Lockkeeper's bedroom would have been like when he lived and worked here. You will also see a pictoral history of Columbia County and learn the significance of the Augusta Canal to the City of Augusta and the surrounding areas.
If you are a teacher or a leader of a local childrens group, you may choose to schedule a free tour of the cottage (Monday thru Friday only). Working in conjunction with the Augusta Canal Authority it would be possible to see the headgates area and when you are finished, board the Petersburg Boat replica and float down the 8 mile canal to Enterprise Mill to walk through the entire interpretive center.
Operating Hours for the Center are:
Monday - Saturday - 10am - 4pm
