Crime Analyst

Intelligence Unit – Headquarters)

SALARY GRADE:   21                                                                

 

JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for management of crime and traffic analysis.

CHAIN OF COMMAND
This position answers to the Staff Sergeant of the Intelligence Unit.

CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Forecasts the directions which criminal elements may take, thus enabling the Sheriff and staff members to prioritize crime problems and allocate resources accordingly

Receives, analyzes, assesses and disseminates information

Detects patterns, trends and movements of criminals

Predicts capabilities, intentions and vulnerabilities of criminals

Identifies major crime / traffic problems and recommends remedial action

Enters and retrieves data using specific computer programs

Performs research using in-house and external sources

Prepares charts, graphs and written or oral reports

Networks with other local, state and federal agencies

Provides related training to agency members

Provides educational forums to the community

Conducts Criminal Investigative Analysis and data mining

Reviews incident reports/teletypes

Provides roll call information and briefings

Performs other duties as needed

KNOWLEDGE OR SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:

Knowledge of information management utilizing computers

Knowledge of analytical theory, practice and techniques

Skilled in oral and written communication

Skilled in basic clerical tasks with knowledge of office practices and procedures

Skilled in the use of computer hardware and software

Ability to attend training courses specific to the position

Ability to prepare standard analytical charts and reports

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the general public

Possesses above average organizational skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred two years of experience in crime analysis, criminal investigations, or similar fields

Associate’s Degree or that equivalent in training and experience

Must pass all drug screens
