POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing a variety of standard tasks relating to maintaining the cleanliness of the floors and carpeted areas within a Columbia County facility.  These tasks include vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, buffing, stripping wax, removing stains and refinishing various types on flooring surfaces.

The purpose of this position is to assist in maintaining county flooring materials in a clean, safe and hygienic state.  Any unsafe areas i.e. loose tiles or torn carpeting should be reported immediately to Supervisor for replacement or repair.  Errors may result in unsafe and unpleasant environment for employees, citizens and a poor image for the county.

Work is performed inside and outside county buildings where employee may be exposed to hot, cold or inclement weather. Employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Employee must wear personal protective equipment such as glasses, masks or gloves.

Work is performed by employee while sitting, standing, stooping, bending, or crouching. Employee must lift both light and heavy objects frequently, climb ladders, possess a high degree of manual dexterity, and ability to distinguish between shades of color.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, representatives of other county departments and vendors.

Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position is required. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the class of vehicle or equipment operated is required.

PRINCIPLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Maintains and follows all safety regulations and guidelines.

Displays wet floor signs where they are visible while carrying out floor cleaning tasks.

Ensures that all solvents and chemical cleaners are used according to safety regulations and guidelines.

Ensures that supply inventories are accounted for and that supplies and equipment stay fully stocked and operational for future cleaning tasks.

Monitors cleaning/supply stock and informs Supervisor for reordering supplies.

Learns locations of all Columbia County facilities and types of flooring along with any unusual cleaning needs.

Operates county vehicles and equipment as necessary for the purpose of performing activities.

Completes work order information to document labor hours and materials.

Responds to custodial issues as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the methods, techniques and standards used in floor maintenance.

Skill in using mops, brooms, vacuums, buffing machines and related equipment.

Ability to exhibit good oral communication.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to load and unload needed equipment and materials needed to complete flooring project.

Ability to work Monday – Friday with hours of 7:00 am to 4:00 pm with occasional weekend work depending on facility needs and project details.

Ability to perform any and other related duties as assigned.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position is required. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the class of vehicle or equipment operated is required.
