New Scam Alert
Jury Duty Scam
We are currently working a case where someone was scammed out of $550. She received a call from 888-211-9469 and the caller claimed themselves to be Lt. Westerbrook. While on the phone with him another subject came on the line and identified himself as Lt. Bobby Williams. Both of these people informed her that she missed jury duty and she needed to send them $550 with NetSpend gift cards to keep from being arrested.
When you call 888-211-9469, it is an automated answering device that says you have reached the non-emergency number for the Columbia County Sheriff's Department and ask you to follow the prompts.
IMPORTANT REMINDER- WE NEVER OPERATE IN THIS MANNER! We will never ask you to pay fines/fees over the phone.
